Sprachkurse für Kinder

Language courses

As you know, Wiesbaden has taken in approximately 4,000 refugees. In the early months, the influx of refugees was massive. The authorities, as well as all language schools and the education system, initially struggled to cope with all the tasks, resulting in children and adults having to wait a long time for a spot in school.

We opened our volunteer language courses in April 2022 to teach refugees the language so that they could become somewhat independent. Initially, the courses were only for adults, but later we expanded to include children and teenagers. The majority of our teachers come from the circle of the Be an Angel group. We had around 13 German volunteer teachers, and fortunately, 10 of them have stayed with us.

We have incredibly interesting teachers: former journalists and television presenters, a theater director, an actress, an entrepreneur, former, future, and current school teachers. Two teachers are from Ukraine, one from Kharkiv and the other from Kyiv. They currently teach German in an integration class and in three adult and child groups with us.

Several adults stayed for about 3-4 months, attended integration courses, and left us with gratitude and a relatively high level of language proficiency. New arrivals have taken their place. Others attend our courses in parallel with integration courses or DIKLA classes.

Some join us because they need tutoring or additional support, while others are high achievers and want more. And all of them enjoy our classes.

When we opened the children’s groups, one mother said to her child, who had missed attending a regular school, “Now you are a real student”: “теперь ты школярка!” That’s why we named the project “Our School.”
